Where is the Stables Guest House? We are located in the market town of Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland, just 25 miles from the Scotland - Northern Ireland ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan.

By Air
Approx. 2.5 hours drive from Newton Stewart is Glasgow International Airport. Further south (2 hours drive from Newton Stewart) is Prestwick International Airport.

By Sea
Newton Stewart is only 25 miles from the ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan which both offer regular crossings to Belfast or Larne in Northern Ireland.

By Rail
Trains run from Glasgow to Barrhill and Stranraer. Newton Stewart is approx. 25 miles from Barrhill (to the north) and Stranraer (to the west). From Barrhill, follow the A714 south to Newton Stewart. From Stranraer follow the A75 east to Newton Stewart.

Travel Directions

From the North (Glasgow)
Follow signs for Kilmarnock and Ayr. Continue past Ayr towards Girvan. Once at Girvan, follow signs for Barrhill and Newton Stewart (A714).
When you arrive at Newton Stewart, travel through the town. Take the first right turn (Windsor Road) after the Police station. Travel to the top of Windsor Road and, at the junction at the top of the steep hill, take a left turn onto York Road. Travel along York Road until you see the Museum. Take the first right turn after the Museum (Corsbie Road). The Stables Guest House is the first house on the right, clearly signposted.

From the East (England)
Follow signs for Dumfries and Stranraer, off the M6 just past Carlisle. Once you have left the M6 join the A75 (Euroroute) and follow signs for Stranraer. The first major town is Dumfries (25 miles from Motorway junction). Newton Stewart is approximately 45 miles from Dumfries. At Newton Stewart, take a right hand turn at the roundabout (still on the A75). Travel along this road (Wigtown Road, becoming Queen Street). Travel down through the town until you pass the Bank of Scotland on the right. Just after the Bank, around the corner on the left, you need to take a left hand turn just before the Central Bar (Church Lane). Travel up this road until you reach a steep junction onto York Road. Take a right turn onto York Road then the 2nd left turn (Corsbie Road). The Stables Guest House is the first house on the right, clearly signposted.
